Throughout August, we’re sharing more about our 2023 Quilter’s Planner designers. Today we’d like to share more about Lynett Muhaso of Lynsavenue. This year, Lynett designed the My Heart to Yours baby quilt pattern.
Lynett is a social worker and modern quilt designer who lives in Melbourne, Australia, with her husband and two kids. She is at her happiest when spending time with family and playing with fabric, bringing quilt designs to life. Lynett has had some of her work published in major modern quilt magazines.
The My Heart to Yours baby quilt is the perfect way to show your love for a little one! The art deco design hides sweet little hearts that you can accentuate using color placement.
What was the most fun part of doing this project?
I really loved using this simple block to turn into this enjoyable layout and design. I enjoyed playing with the many colour options that the design lends itself to. Lastly, l was surprised with how much more fun l had making this quick project and bringing it to life.
Tell me about a favorite project you’ve made.
Can l pick two as l can’t choose between the two? First favourite is my Heart Posy quilt because it was inspired by my beautiful girls, my heartbeats. The other is my Boxes of Love quilt, a project l collaborated on with my 9yr old daughter. It was so special to work on a quilt pattern together which l hope we will continue to do so.
Where in the world are you located? Can you tell us a bit about how your area inspires your work?
I’m located in the land down under, in Melbourne, Australia. I’m inspired by anything and everything interesting that catches my eye. This can be my kids lego builds, road signs, architecture, my kids in general and family all serve as inspiration in my work.
Tell us a bit about where you do your sewing.
I’m lucky to live in a home with extra room that l’m able to have a dedicated sewing space all to myself. However, lately l’ve been using the dining table because one, l want to be with the kids and two, my sewing room is a bit of a mess so instead of dealing with it, l can pretend being with the kids is the reason…lol
Why did you decide to make this quilt, and can you tell us a little about the inspiration behind it?
When l thought about this project, l knew l wanted, hearts and for it to be a nice and quick project to make. I was thinking about the Quilty community and the warmth and support they provide and l wanted make a heart quilt pattern that shows how l feel about being part of this incredible community. The design is about connected hearts, friendships, supports and community (at least l hope it translates)
What is the one quilting tool you can’t live without?
As annoying as this tool can be, always showing up to play when not needed, l can’t live without my seam ripper. It makes fixing those mistakes quick and easy helping me back on my merry way with finishing my project.
What type of sewing machine do you use?
I have and love my Juki TL2000QI. Easy to use and makes sewing a breeze.
