This block tutorial shows how to make the Broken Dishes block as shown in the 2019 Quilter’s Planner.
Broken Dishes Block
Number of Fabrics: 2 | Number of Pieces: 4
(2) 4″ squares
(2) 4″ squares
Piecing
Referring to the “Half-Square Triangles (HST): Two at a Time Method” instructions in the Reference section of your Quilter’s Planner, make (4) 3 1/2″ HSTs using the 4″ squares.
Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew (2) 3 1/2″ HSTs together. Press toward the darker fabric. Row should measure 6 1/2″ x 3 1/2″. Repeat to make (2).
Nesting seams, sew rows together with a 1/4″ seam. Press seam open.
The finished Broken Dishes Block should measure 6 1/2″ square.
