This block tutorial shows how to make the Disappearing Nine Patch block as shown in the 2019 Quilter’s Planner.
Disappearing Nine Patch Block
Number of Fabrics: 3 | Number of Pieces: 9
(4) 2 3/4″ squares
(4) 2 3/4″ squares
(1) 2 3/4″ square
Piecing
Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew (3) 2 3/4″ squares together. Press to the center fabric. Row A should measure 2 3/4″ x 7 1/4″. Repeat to make (2).
Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew (3) 2 3/4″ squares together. Press away from the center fabric. Row B should measure 2 3/4″ x 7 1/4″.
Nesting seams, sew rows together with a 1/4″ seam. Press seams open. Nine Patch should measure 7 1/4″ square.
Cut Nine Patch in half horizontally and vertically to create (4) 3 5/8″ square sub-blocks.
3 5/8″ Sub-Block
Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew (2) sub-blocks together. Press to the right hand block fabric. Row should measure 3 5/8″ x 6 3/4″. Repeat to make (2).
Nesting seams, sew rows together with a 1/4″ seam. Press seam open.
Trim the finished Disappearing Nine Patch Block to 6 1/2″ square.
