This block tutorial shows how to make the Double Pinwheel block as shown in the 2019 Quilter’s Planner.

Double Pinwheel Block

Number of Fabrics: 3 | Number of Pieces: 4

(1) 4 1/2″ square

(1) 4 1/2″ square

(2) 4 1/2″ squares

Piecing

Referring to the “Half-Square Triangles (HST): Two at a Time Method” instructions in the Reference section of your Quilter’s Planner, make (2) untrimmed HSTs using 4 1/2″ squares. Press toward the darker fabric.

Repeat the same HST Two at a Time Method using a 4 1/2″ square under an untrimmed HST. Press seams open.

Trim the sub-block to 3 1/2″ square. Repeat to make (4).

Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew (2) 3 1/2″ square sub-blocks together. Press toward the right hand block. Row should measure 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″. Repeat to make (2).

Nesting seams, sew rows together with a 1/4″ seam. Press seams open.

The finished Double Pinwheel Block should measure 6 1/2″ square.
