This block tutorial shows how to make the Economy block as shown in the 2019 Quilter’s Planner.

Economy Block

Number of Fabrics: 3 | Number of Pieces: 9

(1) 3 1/2″ square

(2) 3 1/2″ squares cut in half on the diagonal to make (4) 3 1/2″ triangles

(2) 4 1/2″ squares cut in half on the diagonal to make (4) 4 1/2″ triangles

Piecing

Using a 1/4″ seam, sew a 3 1/2″ triangle to one side of the 3 1/2″ square. Press seam toward triangle. Using a 1/4″ seam, sew the second 3 1/2″ triangle on the opposite side. Press seam toward triangle. Repeat using remaining 3 1/2″ triangles. Trim to 4 3/4″ square.

Using a 1/4″ seam, sew a 4 1/2″ triangle to one side of the sub-unit. Press seam toward triangle. Using a 1/4″ seam, sew the second 4 1/2″ triangle on the opposite side. Press seam toward triangle. Repeat using remaining 4 1/2″ triangles.

Trim the Economy Block to 6 1/2″ square.
