This block tutorial shows how to make the Friendship Star block as shown in the 2019 Quilter’s Planner.
Friendship Star Block
Number of Fabrics: 2 | Number of Pieces: 9
(4) 2 1/2″ squares
(2) 3″ squares
(1) 2 1/2″ squares
(2) 3″ squares
Piecing
Referring to the “Half-Square Triangles (HST): Two at a Time Method” instructions in the Reference section of your Quilter’s Planner, make (4) 2 1/2″ HSTs using the 3″ squares.
Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew (2) 2 1/2″ squares on either side of an HST. Press away from the HST. Row A should measure 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″. Repeat to make (2).
Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew (2) HSTs on either side of a 2 1/2″ square. Press away from the HST. Row B should measure 2 1/2″ x 6 1/2″.
Nesting seams, sew Rows A and Row B together with a 1/4″ seam. Press seams open.
The finished Friendship Star Block should measure 6 1/2″ square.
