Piecing

Referring to the “Half-Square Triangles (HST): Two at a Time Method” instructions in the Reference section of your Quilter’s Planner, make (4) untrimmed HSTs using the 3 1/2″ squares. Press toward the darker fabric. Leave HSTs untrimmed.

Nesting seams, repeat the same HST Two at a Time Method using the HSTs sub-blocks to create (4) Hourglass Blocks. Press seam open. Trim to 2 1/2″ square.

Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew (2) 2 1/2″ squares on either side of an Hourglass Block. Press away from the Hourglass Block. Row A should measure 6 1/2″ x 2 1/2″. Repeat to make (2).

Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew (2) Hourglass Blocks on either side of a 2 1/2″ square. Press away from the Hourglass Blocks. Row B should measure 6 1/2″ x 2 1/2″.

Nesting seams, sew Rows A and Row B together with a 1/4″ seam. Press seams open.

The finished Ohio Star Block should measure 6 1/2″ square.
