This block tutorial shows how to make the Rail Fence block as shown in the 2019 Quilter’s Planner.
Rail Fence Block
Number of Fabrics: 2 | Number of Pieces: 8
(4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles
(4) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles
Piecing
Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew (2) 2″ x 3 1/2″ rectangles together. Press to the darker fabric. Sub-block should measure 3 1/2″ square. Repeat to make (4).
Using a 1/4″ seam allowance, sew (2) sub-blocks together. Press to the darker fabric. Row should measure 3 1/2″ x 6 1/2″. Repeat to make (2).
Nesting seams, sew rows together with a 1/4″ seam. Press seam open.
The finished Rail Fence Block should measure 6 1/2″ square.
