Summer is finally knocking at our doors and it’s the time to open them wide, embrace the brighter, longer days, make plans for our stitching and spend time with friends and family this glorious season! We’ve put together our top tips to help you plan and manage your time, organize some projects and have some summer fun.
Slow Sewing
With the chance to spent more time outside, it’s a good opportunity to work on some projects that are portable so that you can stitch little and often. Hand sewing is perfect because you can pick it up and put it down and it’s easy to do while still chatting, watching children playing and enjoying the heat of the sun (or the shade of a tree if that’s your preference!) Check back to your ‘Projects At A Glance’ page in your Quilter’s Planner. You might find you’ve already got some hand sewing projects started, so dig them out, work out what you need to take outside and enjoy the slower, more relaxing pace of stitching in the sun.
Vacation Projects
We all love making quilts, but sometimes it’s great to work on some quick makes for that instant gratification and joy of a quick finish. So why not stitch yourself a beach bag, a purse or perhaps a case for your sunglasses? If you have a bit more time, you could make a picnic blanket, or some matching pillows for your back yard in your favorite summery prints.
Summer Bucket list
Why not write yourself a bucket list of all the things you want to do, the places you want to visit and the people you want to see over the summer. Then use your Quilter’s Planner to map out when you’re going to do things, making note to book tickets ahead of time so that you get the best deals and stay organized.
Summer Reads
Sipping a cool drink in one hand and holding a good summer read in the other while reclining on the sunbed is a pretty good way to spend some down time in the summer. And if you’re anything like me, you’ll enjoy alternating between hand sewing and reading much of the time when on vacation! So why not write down your list of summer reads ahead of time and make sure you have copies of the books, or have them downloaded to your e-reader or on an audio player. Whenever someone recommends a good book, write it down, then you can refer to list as soon as you finish a book. Don’t forget you can check out your local thrift/charity shops for book inspiration and also your local library, or why not have a book swap with friends so that they can be enjoyed again and again.
Summer Fabrics
Summer is an excellent time to stitch with your favourite bright colored, summery prints and have fun with a riot of color! Why not cut into those prints that you’ve been saving that bring you so much joy? You could even consider dabbling in dress making and make yourself a dress, blouse or pants. Or maybe you have summer themed prints, such as beach prints or sun prints that would make the perfect summer quilt or project. Just looking at them is bound to make you smile.
We hope this has given you some ideas for getting organized for summer, and that you can use your planner to embrace life with open arms. We want you to have the best summer ever!
